What is Botley 2.0?
The Botley 2.0 is a toy-like robot specially designed for children of age 5+ to learn basic programming and coding without any electronic device. However, Botley can also use it for four years children if they are a little bit skilled.

What is inside the Botley 2.0 set?
The set includes:
- One blue-colored Botley 2.0 robot: It has two wheels that catch remote codes and walkthrough accordingly.
- Remote Programmer: These are used to program different codes.
- Removable robotic arms: These are used to let Botley carry small things like a ball, pen, ring, etc.
- Coding cards.
- Interactive obstacles.
- Code game.
Botley requires 5 AAA batteries, not included.
Learning the basic operations and functions:
- The OFF-CODE-LINE button at the bottom of the robot attempts to operate the toy in two modes, i.e., CODE and LINE.
- On the top surface, there exists a STOP button. Children can press it to stop the Botley.
Functions of Remote Programmer:
The remote programmer has the following buttons on it;
- Transmit: The function of this button is to convey the ordered codes to Botley. When you have programmed all codes, then press it to let the toy work.
- 45° turn Left: To let the Botley turn its direction into 45° left rotation
- 45° Right Turn: To allow the Botley to turn its direction into 45° right rotation.
- Right, Turn: To turn into the perfect right direction (90 degrees).
- Left Turn: To turn into the ideal left direction 990 degrees)
- Forward: If you press it once, the robot will move one step approximately 8”.
- Back: Pressing it once will direct the toy to turn backward
- Object Detection: To enable object detection, press it once. And again, push it to disable this option.
- Loop: For repeating any step like a left turn, right turn, etc., press this loop button.
- Light: While using the Botley in night or darkness, press this light button to enable the night light. To change the light color, press it again.
- Sound: If you press it once, there will be a low sound of the robot. Pressing again will generate high sound. In the last, push it to remove the sound.
- Clear: To clear only one previous step, press once. And to remove all previous codes, press and hold till it gives a peep sound.
On-battery or Rechargeable:
The Botley 2.0 robot is not chargeable.
You will need 3 AAA batteries for the robot and 2 AAA batteries for the remote programmer. Botley will start repeatedly beeping if the batteries are low charged. And you have to insert new batteries.
Also, the Botley will be powered off automatically if you leave it idle for nearly 5 minutes.
Moving Objects from One Place to Another:
This robot can move small objects from one place to another. There are two removable arms.
You can attach any color of the arm to the robot and program the codes.
Then, press TRANSMIT button to let the robot carry small objects as ordered.
Programming Some Basic Codes:
The set contains 40 coding cards that are for programming some basic codes. Additionally, these practices will enhance children’s STEM knowledge. So, let’s try simple programming.
- Hold the robot and move the POWER button, located at the bottom, to the CODE side.
- Secondly, press the FORWARD button once and then press the RIGHT button.
- Now, press the TRANSMIT button to convey the CODES order to the robot. Lastly, it will give a light and peep sound and start moving in the directions programmed previously.
Wow! The Botley is now on its way. You can program the code challenges from simple to advance.
Eye-Lights in Night:
This super-amazing robot has eyes that give color lights in the night or darkness.
To enable this option, turn on the LIGHT button. Then, if you want to change the light color, press the same button once.

Diagnosing and Solving the Common Issues:
Remote Programmer Issues:
If you press the TRANSMIT button but instead of working Botley peeps noisily, try applying the following techniques
- Get your remote programmer closer to the Botley
- Turn your remote programmer direction towards the robot
- Check if the batteries are new. If not, change them immediately
- Don’t code more than 150 steps. If you have coded, remove them and code either 150 or less than that.
- Lastly, check if the robot is not left idle for more than 5 minutes. If yes, press the LARGE button on the top of the robot to wake it up.
The robot is not moving here and there:
- If the robot does not move at all, check if its wheels are free of any blockage.
- Try to use the Botley on smooth, flat, or tile surfaces
Botley does not detect objects:
If your robot is not able to see the things coming in front of it, try the following methods;
- The object should be a dimension of 2” tall and 1.5” wide. Other than this, the robot won’t detect the object.
- The removable arms can also be the reason. So, remove them before using this feature.
